ASAPA General Meeting
Hello,

ASAPA will be having a General Meeting on Sunday, October 25th at 1PM at
Grant MacEwan University's downtown Edmonton campus (10700 104Ave) in room
7-142.
The primary purpose for this meeting is to hold an election for positions
on the board of directors.

ASAPA is responsible for running Animethon, hosting dances and sponsoring
other events throughout the year. Sadly, in recent years, the number of
people willing to serve on the board of directors has decreased to such
dangerous levels that it threatens the viability of the Society. Without
ASAPA, these events will not take place.

For those wishing to gain or renew membership the cost is $5 CDN. These
memberships are valid until the next Annual General Meeting in April. Only
members are eligible to vote, nominate and run for positions on the board.

The board typically consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, and 3 Directors at Large.

Members may submit proposals to be resolved at the General Meeting
however, they are required to file their proposals with both the President
and Secretary of the Society at least 14 days before the meeting.

Food and refreshments will be available.

Thank you for your interest.

Animethon 17 - Meeting Announcement
Hi Eveyone,

For those interested who did not get this e-mail as of yet:

Let me start by thanking everyone one who works on Animethon as it would of never happening without you all.

Currently, Animethon is at a crossroad as our staff numbers have been dwindling down as the event has grown. In order for Animethon to continue next year we need to increase our staff numbers so that we can continue to bring the event together as well as decrease the burden of everything that needs to be done on each individual. In order to do this we need all our past and present staff and volunteers to step up to the plate or else Animethon might not be able to continue.

In order to get a head start on the event and to start the work early ASAPA has appointed me as the Chair of Animethon 17. However, ASAPA will be taking applications for the committee positions we post every year and information on that will be up on the web site shortly. The committee will continue to mange Animethon but this task cannot be done without the help of everyone else who wants to be staff and volunteer their time to this event.

In order for all of this to happen we will have a general staff/volunteer meeting so that we may discuses the future of Animethon as well as what is required in order to rebuilt it to the level of where it should be for an event it’s size. As such we need as much of you to come to this meeting to ensure this will happen or else there is a good chance Animethon might be delayed or even canceled!

Currently, the meeting is proposed to be held on either Saturday Afternoon (1:00 pm) or Sunday Afternoon (1:00 pm) or Monday Night (6:30 pm) of September 12 – 14. We need you to please get back to us as soon as possible (preferably by Friday, September 4 by the latest) so that we can book a classroom for the day that as many people as possible are able to attend. The future of Animethon is in all your hands.

Thanks,

Vlad G Pohnert
Animethon 17 Chair

Mark Barker

Mark N. Barker
January 30, 1978 - April 14, 2009

Mark was an active member within the anime and art communities in Edmonton long before many. He was on staff with BAKA (The Banzai Anime Klub of Alberta) and Animethon, using his extraordinary talents to enrich the experiences of many who attended.

He would spend entire weekends away at events like many of us, but would tuck himself away in the artists alley, doodling and drawing portraits and sketches. An amazing artist, Mark moved to B.C. To continue on his path at Vancouver Film School for game design.

Always the optimist, Mark was a delight to know. His laughter could ease any tension, and he seemed to have an uncanny way of relating Jem and the Holograms to any conversation.

The loss of such an amazing man has impacted much of the community, and he will be missed among his friends and fans of his work.

ASAPA Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting has been called!
It will be held on:

March 29th, 2009 - 12:00 Noon
Grant MacEwan City Centre Campus - Room TBA

I will update this post as the room we have available becomes known to me.
Since we have been unable to change our bylaws due to lack of member attendance to the two attempted GM's, all members will have their memberships invalidated minutes before this AGM begins, making the quorum for the new society 100%, due to our old bylaws.
There will also be an election of a new board and changeover information for that new board held here, so anyone with a vested interest in ASAPA or Animethon is highly encouraged to attend.
Be sure to bring $5.00 for the membership renewal fee.

General Meeting
Due to a number of complications (which will be explained in the meeting), the required number of directors have resigned as is sufficient to hold a General Meeting and a By-Election.
While this meeting is not an official AGM according to the legal bylaws, there will still be required reports as well as a by-election like any other AGM, so, as usual, attendance is extremely important.
We will be taking this opportunity to renew any memberships that drop by.
Regarding the time and location:

Saturday, October 18th, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
University of Alberta Central Academic Building (CAB) – Room 281

E-mail Secretary@asapa.ca for the information items, including:
1) Agenda for this meeting
2) The minutes for the last Board of Directors’ Meeting, #20
3) The Bylaws as passed by ASAPA on April 20th, 2008
4) The minutes for the last Annual General Meeting, held on April 20th, 2008.

The by-election will be to fill the following positions:
President
Vice-President
Treasurer
Secretary
Director-At-Large (Three in total)

See you all there!

Attention! The Animethon 15 Pre-Registration form deadline has been set to July 27th. Any pre-registrations we receive that have been post-marked past this point will be returned! asapa.ca lives!
We are now live! A bit bare-bones, right now, but we definitely needed something like this. More specifically, Animethon needed a forum, and now it has one. Post away! I'll try to get as many directors as I can in here answering questions and such.

P.S. If you are an ASAPA member or an Animethon director, let me know so I can associate those flags with your account.
