Animethon to Return in 2021

COVID-19 has caused a drastic impact on our lives and many events since its outbreak; we have been carefully monitoring the situation and its potential impact on Animethon. With our community and attendees’ well-being at the forefront of our concern, together with health authorities’ current recommendations and projections, the Alberta Society for Asian Popular Arts (ASAPA) and the Animethon 27 Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone Animethon to August 6-8th, 2021.

We appreciate and value the many supporters, staff, and industries in the community. It is with that on our conscience; we understand we have the responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus and protect our community. The COVID-19 pandemic is creating new challenges economically, socially, and conscientiously on many aspects of our lives. With those challenges in place, ASAPA and the Animethon 27 Committee cannot confidently bring you the quality event and programming that our community has come to expect. We hope everyone can understand this difficult decision.

After careful consideration, we have determined that it is not feasible to maintain the necessary precautions such as social distancing, hygiene, and quarantine recommendations put forth by the health authorities for an event our size.

This postponement has been a very difficult decision for us, but we will use this extra time earned to plan for our postponed event to exceed your expectations. In the meantime, we hope you all stay healthy and happy. See you next year.
